THE Northeast Arm of Grand Lake is broad and shallow, and its shores are low. The Salmon River flows into its head, winding between the bushy gravel bars that make up Hawkes, Indian, and Baileys Points. The best anchorage is behind Barton Island. Other possibilities are to anchor in the mouth of either of the two sharp indentations in the southern shore on either side of Barton, though these are shallow. The head of the arm becomes quite shoal, so protection is hard to find.

To approach the indentation in the southern shore farther east, you will need to estimate the extent of the shoal area off Hawkes Point, since it is not buoyed. Keep well to the south and run into the cove.
