YOUNGS COVE is the best of the coves on the east shore of Grand Lake proper. It has a tranquil, undeveloped feel, even though several cottages have frontage on the cove, and the Trans-Canada highway whishes nearby. The sun sets over the mouth of the cove.

Approaches. Wonderfully-named Holms Lump at the mouth of the cove can be passed to either side, though passing to the north is easier. Shoals off Foshay Beach are marked with green spar “EE3,” which should be left to port. Be on the lookout for fish traps that may be set off the hooked point on the southern shore.

Anchorages, Moorings. The anchor shown on the chart in the center of the cove is one option. A more popular spot is against the cove’s southern shore, past the hooked point, as near the head of the cove as possible. Protection is better here, though it is closer to a pair of cottages ashore and to the highway. Another option is to work into the mini cove east of Foshay Beach. The bottom is good mud.
