Saint John River overview chart

BELLEISLE BAY is a beautiful arm off Long Reach running 10 miles northeast through rolling hills of forest and farmland. The first half contains Kingston Creek and Jenkins Cove, two of the best anchorages on the entire Saint John River. A cable ferry crosses the midpoint of Belleisle Bay at Long Point, and the communities of Keirsteadville and Hatfield Point flank its head.

Belleisle Bay can be entered through shallow Shampers Cove, though this is not recommended, or through the narrow but deeper passage between Hog and Pig Island.

Low, grassy Hog Island is easily identified by three high poles supporting osprey nests. The Shampers Cove route is more difficult because the entire cove is shoal and grassy.
