Tidal Range: Mean 18.1 feet (5.5m); Large 25.2 feet (7.7m)

ON a clear day, Point Lepreau can be seen from almost anywhere in the Bay of Fundy, though there are many sailors who have passed this way and never seen it at all. More prominent than the 85-foot lighthouse (Fl 5s 26m 16M, horn) on the point is the nuclear power plant on the point slightly to the north, the first nuclear generator in Canada.

When sailing from Letete Passage to Saint John, Point Lepreau marks the halfway point. Offshore, the red-and-white Mo(A) whistle lies in an area of strong current and tide rips that can produce nasty chop when the wind is opposing the current. Under these conditions, it is best to stay farther offshore and give Point Lepreau a wide berth. Cutting inside the whistle and going through the rips is not recommended.
