NORTHWEST HARBOUR is a delightful surprise midway along the east coast of Deer Island. High wooded banks make this a tiny fjord, deep and well protected, shared only with a few houses. This is not a recommended harbor for entry into Canada since there is no public access ashore. Instead, head to Lords Cove.

From the east, round East Quoddy Head and cut across Head Harbour Passage. Pass to either side of Black Rock, with a green daybeacon, and turn northward in the Quoddy River.

At spar “UPA” turn to the west and pass between small Dinner Island well to port and red spar “UP4” close to starboard. Once in the harbor, favor the southern side to avoid the ledge and weir along the north shore. Do not go past the point at the western end of the cove.

Anchorages, Moorings. The middle of the cove’s western end has about 21 feet at low and good holding ground. Southwest winds tend to funnel down the length of the harbor from its head.
