NORTHWEST HARBOR is on Cross Island at, as you might guess, its northwestern corner. It is easy to enter and beautiful. In the early morning, deer might be browsing along its shores, and the outlet of a saltwater pond might be sparkling in the sun as it runs across the small beach. And the radio towers on the Cutler Peninsula are almost out of sight.

But this is not an ideal overnight anchorage. Rafted fish pens fill most of the western portion of the cove, the holding ground is dubious, and rockweed and kelp obscure most of the sand bottom.

Northwest Harbor is best enjoyed as a daystop. Try to find a sandy patch for your anchor, and dont leave your boat for long.
