SAWYER COVE is an attractive small anchorage opposite the northern tip of Hardwood Island, with excellent protection from prevailing winds. A bald eagle may sometimes be seen soaring above the 100-foot bluff that forms the southern entrance.

Approaches. Fish pens are moored off the eastern shore of Hardwood Island. The large ledge in the mouth of the entrance is visible almost until high water, and some kind soul has built a small rock cairn on its eastern part. It can be passed to either side, but the approach to the south is wider.
