Casco Passage and York Narrows chart

CASCO PASSAGE joins Jericho Bay and Blue Hill Bay north of Swan’s Island. From Jericho Bay, the islands north of the passage—Johns, Opechee, and Black—are low and dark against the background of Mount Desert. The opening between Swan’s and Black is visible a long way.

The northern channel of Casco Passage is almost a straight shot and a bit easier than York Narrows, the southern fork. Running from west to east, leave red marks to port, green marks to starboard. The current through the passage ebbs west and floods east with considerable force.

Starting at red bell “8,” the York Narrows passage is deep but narrow, and it turns sharply north at Orono Island.
