AT the eastern end of Fox Islands Thorofare, Stimpsons, Calderwood, and Babbidge Island, together with Burnt Island, provide an interesting series of passages that require considerable attention. Both Stimpsons and Babbidge are heavily wooded, while Calderwood between them has several meadows and clearings.

Run along the south coast of Stimpsons until you see the southern tip of Calderwood, rocky with just a few trees. The only danger is the rock near the southeast corner of Stimpsons. It uncovers 9 feet at low and normally is easy to find. Run up halfway between this rock to port and Calderwood Island to starboard. The best place to anchor is on the bar (44° 08.52N 068° 48.26W), which shows 7, 8, and 10 feet on the chart. IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU HAVE VIOLATED
Between Calderwood and Babbidge. The passage between Calderwood and Babbidge has more obstructions. One person reported hitting an uncharted ledge, covered only 2 or 3 feet at low, while sailing through this passage at 6 knots!
INTERNATIONAL COPYRIGHT LAW.
It is best to go through here at halftide or better, preferably on a rising tide. Coming from the west, stay close to either side of the 7-foot rock in midchannel to avoid the ledge making out from Babbidge. Then stay to the right of midchannel, to avoid the ledge off Calderwood.
PLEASE RESPECT AND SUPPORT THE WORK THAT HAS
Little Thorofare. Little Thorofare, between Stimpsons and Burnt Island, is clean at the eastern end (except for the three little islands off Burnt), but the western end is a rock garden.

Coming from the west, run close to the northern shore of the Thorofare heading toward the dock east of Indian Point. From the dock, turn sharply to starboard and strike across the Thorofare toward another dock west of the little island off the coast of Stimpsons. As you approach the islet and dock, turn to port and continue down the midline of Little Thorofare.
Beware of an uncharted underwater high-voltage cable running from North Haven to Stimpsons, marked by yellow cable-crossing signs on both shores.
