DYER ISLAND is a long, wooded island that separates Narraguagus from Pleasant Bay. Of the several coves on the island, only Northeast Cove offers a good overnight anchorage. Southwest Cove has an active lobster pound and a fishing camp at its head, but it is exposed to the southwest and has doubtful holding ground. Northwest Cove is lined with the rustic cottages and buildings of a boys camp. There are docks and floats and several small sailboats on moorings.

Northeast Cove is a charmer, with two little islands on the north side and a secret little inlet in the corner to explore. There once was a lobster pound here, but today there is no sign of civilization.
