The Maine Peapod has been around for more than a century. Tue, 15 May 2007 20:28 Go to previous messageGo to previous message
Around 15 feet in length, these boats were used for fishing and lobstering before 1900. I've read the design may have been influenced by the earliest Maine natives and their birch bark canoes. That makes sense looking at this angle. They're wonderful shapes to look at.

They're stable enough to put a foot on the gunwale to pull a trap and still get you home when things got rough. http://www.mainecoastguide.com/forum/index.php?t=getfile&id=191
