That's the sad reality of stealing. Thu, 26 January 2006 17:50 Go to previous messageGo to previous message

Thanks for a very detailed and knowledgable responce.

I guess if the property laws are in the state constitution we shouldn't go messing with them.

Somehow over the last fifty or so years the growing percentage of people with mental disorders have effectively leagalized stealing. My qualified guess is that probably close to 0 percent of all liability lawsuits have legititmate reasons for taking money from a landowner. Can we at least blame these lawsiuts on somebody? Only a person corrupted by the modern permissive world would want to take money for an injury or death of a so called loved one(as if these people could love anything but money)just because someone happened to get hurt or die while on someones property.

And how can the politicians call themselves Mainers the way they demand money from the taxpayers? True Mainers would be happy to live simplely and honestly without extravigance or waste. They wouldn't expect so much from their government. But the people from away come in expecting luxuries and conveniences making the politicians feel like hicks if they don't give in. I know this because I've watched that whole process take place right here in my own home town and it's the same everywhere that new people out number the residents who have lived there for generations.

One good thing about New Hampshire is our "Current Use" land program. A tax incentive for land owners to keep their land open and not develop it. In return your taxes are considerably reduced and if you get sued for liabilty the State helps you out. We have thirtyseven acres of land and it has never been posted. We pay $2,716 in taxes.

It boggles my mind how much people will pay for a fraction of a postage stamp of land to live where there is crime, traffic and noise while for the same price they could have a hundred acre ranch in the country with peace, solitude and no crime. And the taxes would probably be lower too. They would just have to be willing to live without all the luxuries and conveniences that higher taxes provide.

I'll probably just live on my boat when I move away.
