Gray Kayaks? Mon, 27 June 2005 18:58 Go to previous message
Just wanted to pass on a episode that happened to me this weekend. Early Saturday morning I was setting lobster gear, just idling along because of the thick fog when out of nowhere and in the middle of the channel appeared 2 gray kayaks about 15-20 feet in front of me. It was just like ghosts appearing out of thin air. Luckily I wasn't making much speed or a wake and easily avoided them. But I couldnt help but think what a bad choice of colors for a kayak, wouldn't a brighter color make more sense? Over the years I've found that white and gray are the hardest colors to see in a fog. Maybe orange or yellow would be safer. Of course the guy that has his head stuck on his radar screen and goes like hell won't see them, so maybe sticking to the shoreline in a fog might be an even better idea. OK I feel better....starboardjon...F/V Artful Dodger Boothbay
