Some Seaway history...finally Thu, 21 August 2003 11:39 Go to previous messageGo to previous message
I have finally contacted my two friends who own Seaways, and here is what I have learned.

Seaways were built in New Hampshire. They produced an 18', a 19' a 23' and a 27' hull. When they went out of business in 1985, all of the molds went to Eastern Boats in Milton, New Hampshire except the 23'. Eastern still produces the 19 footer, and they even call it the Seaway 19. You can see it at http://www.easternboats.com/boats.html

The 23' mold was scooped up by somebody who lives in Maine, "up one of the rivers," as my friend put it. He couldn't remember either his name or location, though he though it could have been in the Phippsburg area, on either the New Meadows River or the Kennebec. This fellow produces the boats--or did--in low numbers. The way my friend discovered this several years ago was by noticing a hull which was nearly identical to his Seaway 23. The owner turned out to be the guy with the mold.

Finally, I have been promised a scan or a photocopy of one of the original Seaway brouchures. I'll post it when I get it.

Hope this helps.
