This lecture will focus on two tragic disasters at sea - the loss of the steamship Portland in 1898 (called New England's "Titanic") in which 192 souls were lost. The second describes the 1935 tragedy that occurred aboard the ketch Hamrah, during a race from Newport, Rhode Island to Norway, an event that destroyed a prominent Boston family.
