We saw more whales this summer on our cruise to Maine than any other summer before. True for anyone else?

I'm not too good at id, but we saw what I think were minkes fairly close in. One at the mouth of Penobscot Bay. Another just off the Cuckholds.

I only saw one this year (out of 60 or so days on the water). Between Camden and Vinalhaven. I thought it was a pilot, but I'm no expert.

We saw a pair of whales off Ragged Island in Casco Bay on the last day of our cruise, right off our bow. We think they were pilot whales, but who knows? They looked to be about 15-25' long.

But we saw dozens of dolphins throughout the cruise, especially in East Penobscot Bay. Any dolphin day is a good day.
